Film Zona Cruda and theatre piece win NCCPH Knowledge Translation Graduate Student Award from the Canadian Public Health Association
Jena Webb was presented with an award for her knowledge translation work in creating the theatre piece and film, Zona Cruda, at the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Public Health Association on June 15th in Toronto.

New article evaluates biodiversity in and threats to Yasuni National Park (Ecuador)
A new article published in PLoS ONE has estimated the biodiversity of Yasuni National Park. They found that “The area is: one of the two richest in the world for amphibian species, the second richest known to date for reptiles, within the top nine richest centers for vascular plants (and the top center for trees and shrubs), among the richest lowland areas for birds, high in mammal richness (particularly for bats), and very rich in fish species.”…

Fate of Yasuni National Park (Ecuador) oil up in the air
Last week several Ecuadorian ministers resigned over President Correa’s critical comments of their handling of the negotiations with donor countries over the terms of a reduced emissions from deforestation and degradation deal which would keep Yasuni National Park intact instead of going forward with plans to drill crude oil there. Correa has said, more or less, if they don’t like the terms, we’ll drill.
